Beginners / Intermediate Classes at Hermitage, Newbury 2009
For 2009 we will be running Three streams of Beginners/Intermediate classes with the Japanese tutors Nobu Kajiwara and Natsuo Kobayashi. Dates as below :

Nobu Kajiwara Intermediate/Advanced Courses at Hermitage, Newbury 2009
1. SUBJECT / Spring pruning of deciduous bonsai (early flushing type) Root pruning (repotting) of deciduous bonsai Styling of conifer (continued from the previous session) - Evaluation of the previous year’s pruning results, - Exercise in improving quality of lines in ramification (proportion, taper, shorter internodes, movements) by substitution, - Exercise in bonsai root pruning to create a “bonsai root system”, - Repotting that does not stress a tree, - Planning and setting a goal for this year’s development.
2. SUBJECT / Spring pruning of deciduous bonsai (Northern species) Root pruning (repotting) of conifer bonsai - Follow-up of the first session on different species. PLEASE NOTE WE ARE REQUIRED TO CLOSE EASTER SUNDAY - THE CLASS WILL BE ON EASTER MONDAY.
3. SUBJECT / Summer pruning of conifer and deciduous bonsai - Evaluation of the health and growth of the trees, - Improving watering skills, - Understanding in general and according to specific species how to induce inner growths by pruning.
4. SUBJECT / Last summer pruning of conifer and deciduous bonsai Root pruning (repotting) of pines and larches Needle adjustment of pines - Evaluation of health and growth of the trees, pest and disease control, - Coming to grips with year-to-year improvement of conifer and deciduous bonsai according to specific species, - Improving watering skills and understanding how to fertilize bonsai, - Improving repotting skills that enhance the development of bonsai.
5.SUBJECT / Autumn pruning of deciduous bonsai Styling of conifer bonsai by wiring Winter care of bonsai - Evaluation of the year’s development/improvement, - Exercise in designing a bonsai that evokes a tangible landscape, age and dimensions. - Hands-on exercise in wire application, - Exercise in organizing branch structure by lines placement that reflects a process of natural branch evolution.
